About This Opportunity:
Shermco is currently seeking a licensed Electrical Power Systems Engineer to support engineering projects across multiple industrial and utility clients. Reporting to the Regional Director of Engineering, this role is ideal for a motivated engineer with both field and design experience in power systems. The role is based in Houston, TX.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and support the professional development of junior engineering staff
· Manage, plan, and execute engineering projects for a broad range of clients and industries
· Perform power systems analysis and design for industrial and utility sectors
· Design and integrate protective relaying systems (e.g., SEL, GE, Siemens, Schneider)
· Develop substation automation systems (e.g., SEL RTAC, RTU, HMI, and communication protocols)
· Conduct electrical studies including short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, grounding, and harmonic analysis
· Prepare, review, and approve electrical drawing packages (e.g., SLDs, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams)
· Design and upgrade distribution systems (e.g., MCCs, switchgear, relays, breakers, fuses, transformers)
· Troubleshoot electrical systems and implement corrective solutions
· Support field commissioning and maintenance activities as needed
· Conduct on-site inspections and data collection
· Prepare engineering proposals, cost estimates, and client deliverables
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
· Registered Professional Engineer in any US state with the ability to gain licensure in any other US state.
· Minimum 5 years of experience in power systems engineering (design and field experience preferred)
· Proficient with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
· Experience with power system modeling software (e.g., EasyPower, SKM, ETAP)
· Knowledge of microprocessor-based relay systems considered an asset
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
· Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as required
· Experience with protective relay systems, including design and commissioning
· Familiarity with performing arc flash, coordination, and power quality studies
