Shermco Canada is seeking a Field Engineer/Field Specialist to join our growing team of electrical power system professionals.
The Field Engineer/Field Specialist – Electrical Testing is responsible for performing electrical testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services on electrical power distribution systems and equipment. This role involves working both independently and as part of a professional field services team to ensure all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Typical work includes testing and commissioning low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical equipment; diagnosing system issues; supporting system startups; and providing technical expertise to customers in industrial and commercial environments.
Perform instrument transformer testing.
Conduct power transformer tests, including Doble testing, TTR, insulation resistance, and related diagnostics.
Test and troubleshoot both electro-mechanical and solid-state protective relays.
Conduct cable testing, including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot.
Perform low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
Execute relay calibrations and verify power metering accuracy.
Diagnose and repair issues with automatic transfer switches (ATS).
Support start-up and commissioning of electrical power systems.
Participate in a rotating emergency on-call schedule.
Respond promptly to customer emergencies when called.
Experience:
Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
Travel:
Must be able to drive locally and regionally on a daily basis.
Must be available for periodic overnight travel.
Education & Training:
Associate’s degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC) from an accredited 2-year technical college preferred, or
Electrical Engineering (EE) degree from an accredited college
Certifications:
NETA Certification (Level I, II, III, or IV) or similar certification desired.
Safety:
Must be able to work safely and follow all electrical safety procedures.
