Overview

With a culture rooted in operational excellence, continuous improvement, and entrepreneurial spirit, Shermco are seeing a high-performing, process driven Assistant Controller to join their accounting leadership team.    This role is best suited for a hands-on accounting leader with a proactive mindset and strong sense of ownership — someone who thrives on taking initiative, driving projects to completion, and delivering results rather than simply executing assigned tasks. As Assistant Controller, you will work closely with the Corporate Controller and CFO to enhance financial reporting, optimize processes, and play a key role in advancing the company’s aggressive growth strategy.

This role offers a clear path for advancement, with defined promotion opportunities, and the chance to help shape the growth of a newly acquired Blackstone portfolio company—an environment that combines career development with the backing of one of the world’s most respected private equity firms. This is a hybrid role based out of the corporate headquarters in Irving, Texas.

  • Ensure all general ledger accounts are properly maintained, reconciled, and supported with appropriate documentation.
  • Lead the monthly close process by preparing, reviewing, and posting journal entries, accruals, and other adjustments impacting the trial balance.
  • Monitor subledger-to-ledger integrity (AP, AR, fixed assets, cash) to ensure accurate trial balance reporting.
  • Review account reconciliations regularly, resolving discrepancies and ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Ensure proper cut-off, classification, and posting of revenue, costs, and balance sheet items.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Support technical accounting research and application of complex transactions (revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidations, purchase accounting).
  • Support audit and lender reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Operational & Project Leadership
  • Drive key finance projects end-to-end (system implementations, process automation, internal controls build-out, reporting enhancements).
  • Serve as a hands-on leader who can dig into details, build schedules, and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, FP&A, and business unit leaders to improve transparency and support decision-making.
  • Team Development
  • Supervise and mentor staff accountants and senior accountants, providing training, review, and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical accounting foundation with ability to apply US GAAP to complex transactions.
    • Experience with ASC 606, ASC 842 and project-based accounting.
