Overview

As an Electrical Engineer - Power Studies, Intern, you will perform comprehensive electrical engineering studies, encompassing a range of tasks from power factor analysis to harmonic modeling and grounding analysis. You will actively engage in hands-on activities with our engineering and field service teams, gaining practical experience and contributing to real-world projects. This role will provide you with the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting, working alongside experienced professionals to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, participate in system design, and ensure the efficient operation of electrical systems.

 

Shermco Industries is seeking an Electrical Engineer- Power Studies, Associate Intern

Responsibilities

 
Electrical Engineering Studies: Perform electrical engineering studies, including power factor analysis, harmonic modeling, grounding analysis, short-circuits, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies for domestic and international projects.
 
Engineering Design and Analysis: Provide engineering-related design, analysis, and studies. Design and troubleshoot protective relaying and controls.
 
Field Services Support: Occasionally work with the Field Services team on shutdown, startup, installation, and maintenance projects.
 
Customer Interaction: Interact with customers to gather critical information, review engineering plans, and maintain professional relationships.
 
Hands-on Engineering: Be hands-on with the engineering and field service group.
 
Requirements 
 
Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Prefer candidates with an educational focus in Power Systems studies. 
 
Field Work: Willingness to be hands-on and work in the field alongside our field technicians.
 
Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience using SKM, ETAP, ASPEN, EasyPower, or other power system modeling software is a plus.
 
Communication: Must be able to clearly communicate in English via verbal and written methods, and effectively communicate directly to customers and co-workers.

Qualifications

Experience: Knowledge or high level understanding of performing protective relay projects, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, and power quality studies is a plus. Utility design experience is a plus.
