Join a Leading Electrical Power System Team

 

Shermco Canada is seeking a skilled Field Electrical Technologist to join our growing team of electrical power system professionals. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with customer-focused service to ensure electrical power systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.

 

As a Field Specialist, you will perform testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment, working both independently and collaboratively with field services teams across industrial and commercial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform instrument transformer and power transformer testing, including Doble testing, TTR, insulation resistance, and diagnostics.
  • Test and troubleshoot electro-mechanical and solid-state protective relays, calibrate relays, and verify power metering accuracy.
  • Conduct switchgear, circuit breaker, and cable testing, including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with automatic transfer switches (ATS) and support system start-up and commissioning.
  • Respond to customer emergencies as part of a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Document and report all test results, service work, and technical findings accurately.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all electrical safety standards and procedures.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure efficient, high-quality field operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise to customers when required.
  • Support continuous improvement of field testing processes and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in switchgear testing, troubleshooting, or related electrical field services.
  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC) or Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
  • NETA Certification (Level I–IV) or equivalent is an asset.
  • Hands-on experience with low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems, including transformers, relays, and switchgear.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work safely, follow electrical safety procedures, and operate independently in field environments.
  • Travel required: 40% or more, including local/regional driving and occasional overnight trips.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
