The Position:
Shermco Protection and Control (P&C) division is seeking Automation & Controls Engineers (Levels I–IV) responsible for the design, configuration, commissioning, and testing of power system automation and protection controls. These roles support mission‑critical environments, primarily large‑scale data centers by applying automation engineering, protection concepts, programming, and strong problem‑solving skills to ensure accurate, reliable, and safe system operation.

Due to continued growth, our Protection & Control (P&C) Division is seeking safety‑focused, experienced teammates with strong knowledge of automation, protection systems, and field commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:
Configure and integrate substation automation systems (e.g., MicroSCADA or similar platforms).
Engineer and test IEC 61850 systems, including MMS, GOOSE, and IED configuration.
Build HMI screens and support SCADA database configuration.
Configure protection relays and IEDs (Hitachi, SEL, or equivalent) using vendor engineering tools.
Program and test RTUs (e.g., RTU560 or similar), including logic, communication mapping, and point‑to‑point testing.
Configure industrial Ethernet switches, VLANs, PRP, and perform network troubleshooting.
Integrate communication protocols such as DNP3, IEC 104, Modbus, SNMP.
Interpret and work from schematics, wiring diagrams, and single‑line diagrams.
Perform system troubleshooting using tools such as Wireshark.
Apply power system protection concepts in commissioning and validation activities.
Interface with customers and team members during testing, energization, and issue resolution.
Preferred Experience:
Substation automation, SCADA engineering, and commissioning.
IEC 61850 engineering, protection relay configuration, and system testing.
Industrial networking, firewall fundamentals, VLANs, PRP, Ethernet switch configuration.
RTU programming/testing (e.g., RTU560, Hitachi RTUs).
Familiarity with Hitachi or SEL automation and protection products.
Experience in data centers, utilities, power systems, or other industrial automation environments
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 4 years of experience in automation, control systems, or commissioning/startup.
Strong knowledge of control theory, automation concepts, and troubleshooting methodologies.
Experience with power system protection and control concepts and substation equipment.
Clear and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work safely and contribute to a safety‑driven culture.
Willingness to travel and perform out‑of‑town commissioning work.
Other Requirements:
Strong preference for individuals who are able and willing to demonstrate their personal commitment to Safety.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Should be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam when required.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

Must have a valid driver’s license and currently have (and be able to maintain) a good driving record.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer-sponsored visa (work permit).
