Project Controls Scheduler/Planner

Location: Hybrid (Irving, Texas)
Employment Type: Full-Time

About This Opportunity:

We are currently seeking a Project Controls Scheduler/Planner.

The Project Scheduler / Planner develops, maintains, and analyzes schedules for Shermco’s complex, high-risk, and schedule-sensitive projects. Working with project leadership, Operations, field teams, Engineering, Procurement, and customers, the role translates scope and execution plans into practical schedules with clear milestones, dependencies, resource assumptions, and completion forecasts. The role identifies schedule risk, provides critical-path visibility, and develops recovery options while Operations retains responsibility for execution. Scheduling services are planned into qualifying projects and programs, with accurate time charging, utilization, and cost recovery expected.

Responsibilities

 Responsibilities

Schedule Development and Baseline Planning

• Develop practical baseline schedules that reflect scope, work sequencing, customer milestones, outage windows, resource requirements, material deliveries, subcontractor activities, and key dependencies.

• Tailor schedule detail to project complexity, risk, and customer requirements, including integration with external master schedules when required.

Progress Measurement and Schedule Maintenance

• Collect and validate project progress and update actual dates, remaining durations, milestones, and completion forecasts at the required cadence.

• Analyze schedule variance, slippage, critical and near-critical activities, float erosion, and emerging dependency risk.

• Maintain short-term look-ahead schedules or milestone plans to support field execution and management visibility.

Schedule Analysis and Recovery

• Perform critical-path and schedule-impact analysis to evaluate delays, changes, resource constraints, and customer dependencies.

• Develop recovery, resequencing, and mitigation options and provide schedule documentation for project decisions, customer discussions, and change-order requests.

• Identify recurring planning or estimating assumptions that create schedule risk and provide feedback for future work.

Resource and Delivery Planning

• Incorporate major labor, equipment, subcontractor, material, engineering, outage, mobilization, and schedule-sensitive customer requirements into project schedules.

• Coordinate schedule assumptions with Operations and resource owners to identify conflicts before critical milestones are affected.

Reporting and Cross-Functional Coordination

• Prepare schedule summaries, milestone reports, variance narratives, and visuals for project, executive, and customer reviews.

• Coordinate with Project Controls Analysts to align schedule status with financial forecasts, changes, and project risk.

• Participate in planning and schedule-review meetings and clearly communicate schedule risks, decisions, and required actions.

• Accurately charge time to assigned work and help define and forecast scheduling support so services are appropriately planned, staffed, and recovered.

• Apply standardized scheduling practices and maintain reliable schedule data across assigned projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant scheduling or field-planning experience will be considered.

• Three or more years of experience in project scheduling, planning, project controls, construction planning or a related project-delivery role.

• Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining schedules for construction, industrial services, utilities, electrical services, data centers, EPC or other complex project environments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong working knowledge of schedule development, logic relationships, critical path, float, milestone management, progress measurement and schedule recovery.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6; ability to work with customer-required scheduling platforms when necessary.

• Ability to translate field execution plans into practical, usable schedules rather than schedules created only for reporting purposes.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify schedule risk and clearly explain its business impact.

• Working knowledge of resource planning, material lead times, outage planning and schedule dependencies.

• Strong communication and facilitation skills with both field and executive stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple schedules and priorities across different projects and regions.

Travel to project sites, planning meetings and Shermco offices may be required based on project complexity and    scheduling needs.

• Must be comfortable working with both office-based project data and field-driven execution information

Preferred Qualifications

AACE Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP) or similar certification.

• Experience performing schedule-impact analysis, delay analysis or supporting change-order documentation.

• Experience with resource-loaded or cost-loaded schedules on larger projects.
